Oral Health Tips During Covid-19

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, we are postponing all of the non-urgent dental and orthodontic appointments. Our team at Live and Smile Dental and Orthodontics are working very hard to increase the level of protection for our patients and team in our facility. We'd like to take this time to let you know that you and your family are on our mind, and hope you are all healthy and well. Here are some helpful tips to maintain excellent oral hygiene at home:

Brushing for Oral Health:

  • Brush with fluoride toothpaste twice a day. It is important to be mindful at brushing, moving your brush in gentle and circular motions to clean plaques off all surfaces.
  • Gently brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth.
  • Mark your calendar to change your toothbrush every three months.

Flossing for Oral Health:

  • Do not forget to floss at least once at night to clean between the teeth. Waterpik is recommended for patients who have fixed orthodontic appliance or have hand dexterity challenges.

Proper Diet for Oral Health:

  • Drink plenty of water every day is not only important for your overall health, but also very beneficial for your oral health.
  • Eat fresh variety of fruits and vegetables every day.
  • Minimize sugary and acidic food to reduce your risk for cavity.

Other Oral Health Tips:

  • If you had prior caries experience, consider use fluoride mouthwash or consult with your dentist about any other fluoride supplements.
  • Due to increased stress or anxiety caused by COVID-19, there may be increased clenching or grinding of your teeth. Consider to wear a temporary mouth guard purchased in store or online. Custom-fitted mouth guard is recommended for long-term wear.
  • Rinse your oral appliance before and after each use or brush with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Dry your appliance. Rinse out your case or holder. Occasionally clean your appliance with cool soapy water and rinse it thoroughly.

  • Consult your dentist right away if you experience severe pain or swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, cellulitis or dental related trauma.

  • It's important to maintain happy and positive mood, keep your thoughts calm and hopeful during this time of uncertainty.
  • Constant renewing physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally will improve our health and promote peace in life.
  • Schedule regular dental re-care appointments as soon as the appointments become available.
